Connecting themes and enduring understandings are integrated into instruction throughout the K-8 social studies program. This emphasis on the big ideas and concepts helps students organize their knowledge and make connections across grade levels. Students are asked to demonstrate their learning by applying these understandings to their lives and to engage in authentic social studies. The end result of the K-8 program is to prepare students for success in advanced social studies coursework in high school.
