Students often struggle with the connections between descriptive statistics for one quantitative variable, relationships between two quantitative variables, correlation and regression topics including both influential observations and outliers, and inference. Participants will work through a classroom-tested (at the high school and university level) complete descriptive analysis of two quantitative variables, followed by analysis in a correlation and regression setting, and then make a decision about whether or not inference is appropriate or necessary to answer a statistical question. In addition to exposing participants to the related functionality of the TI-84, participants will have the opportunity to see how to use both Minitab and Excel in this setting. At the conclusion of this session, participants will leave with a classroom activity (with real-world data from 2017-2018) that has coverage through all of the AP curriculum related to correlation and regression.
