This session will highlight new AP research aimed at supporting the growth of AP participation especially among underrepresented students who are not taking advantage of rigorous academic opportunities available to them. A lack of information about the incremental gains in college outcomes from taking one or two AP Exams versus multiple AP Exams may keep students from taking their first AP Exams, while letting pressures to take as many AP Exams as possible build unchecked. The session will address three key questions: (1) What are the incremental gains in college student outcomes by taking and performing well on numerous AP Exams? (2) What is the early evidence around the benefits of AP Capstone offerings? (3) Are multi-channel efforts aimed at reaching underrepresented students about their potential to do well in an AP course successful at encouraging those students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them at their school?
