Imagine a classroom of students who no longer rush through reading as though there’s a prize at the imaginary finish line of superficial understanding. Imagine a classroom of students who mine the text for evidence and craft sentences that facilitate analytical thinking. This session will provide concrete ideas to help make those classrooms a reality. The Pre-AP English 1 course incorporates some of the high-impact strategies developed by The Writing Revolution, Inc., a national nonprofit dedicated to helping teachers implement an evidence-based approach to teaching writing that also provides direct support for critical thinking. In this session, presenters from both The Writing Revolution and the Pre-AP English content team will model how to apply specific strategies within the context of short, rich texts.
