World Languages and Cultures
AP Annual Conference Submission
Inspired by conversations with colleagues at the 2018 AP Symposium on World Languages, this session will drive home the importance of articulation between AP teachers and college-level faculty. In order to serve AP-students best as they move on to college, both levels need to achieve a clear understanding of how respective programs work. With this in mind, the session will begin to explore answers to the following questions: How do AP-teachers begin to have conversations with college-faculty regarding what AP-students can do, what the scores mean, and how much credit could be awarded? What are some typical misconceptions about AP courses among college faculty and vice versa? What are potential pitfalls in that conversation? How can we make sure that these conversations are fruitful for both levels? What are the benefits for both levels when the conversation goes well? Participants will leave with a repertoire of tools to make these occasionally uncomfortable conversations easier.
