Through service learning, students gain academic knowledge, interpersonal skills, and self confidence.. Service learning opens doors to engaging research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community connection.Yet for exam-driven, time-starved AP teachers and students, service learning can seem an unaffordable luxury. In this presentation, faculty from an international school in Beijing will describe an AP service learning program hat leverages technology, project-based learning and post AP exam course time to foster civic engagement and global awareness. Examples from different courses will be shared including “This I Believe” podcasting for immigrant middle schoolers (AP Lang & Comp), “This is Where We Live,” a multimedia community documentary project adapted by AP Human Geography students for learners in a South African primary school, and Beyond Gender Stereotypes,, digital picture books for children with diverse tales of growing up male and female (AP Psych)
