In a hands-on, educator to educator training session, participants will work through the peer review process of evaluating an AP science free response question exploring phototropism, a response in which a plant shoot grows toward a light source. Participants will practice generating answers to the free response phototropism question. Working with a partner, participants will then score student samples using an AP scoring guide, and score their own and one of their colleagues’ responses. A summary of findings from peer reviews used in AP-TIP IN (AP Teacher Investment Program Indiana) classrooms will be presented including a discussion of how this strategy shifts students to more advanced levels of thinking and communicating. Participants will then group by content area to collaborate and create lesson plans to implement peer review in their classrooms. The session will finish with a reflective conversation on the successes and challenges of implementing this classroom strategy.
