Orange High School
In a matter of six year, Orange High School has gone from a nonexistent AP Calculus program to one where over 96% of students receive a 3 or higher. Despite being a small, urban, Title 1 school, OHS now has 13% of its students taking (and succeeding) in AP Calculus. Strategies for increasing enrollment and success--particularly in disadvantaged and minority communities--will be shared. These strategies include: a summer Pre-Calculus program, zero period (class before school), and a constant focus on spiraling and review, ensuring that student deficiencies are addressed, and that all content is retained. Specific activities, increasing both student performance and enjoyment, that participants can bring to their classrooms will be shared.
