One resource that I have found particularly helpful in the AP English Language classroom is The New York Times Magazine. Feature articles provide in-depth examinations of national and international topics. However, the shorter, recurring columns and essays provide supplementary texts for the AP Lang classroom. Many public libraries provide free digital access for their patrons, which makes The NY Times Mag. an accessible resource for teachers throughout the country. This session will focus on responding to “Ethicist” queries, sentence analysis, and using “Letter of Recommendation” as a beginning of the year writing assignment, as well as brainstorming about other ways to use this resource in the classroom.
