The purpose of this session is to describe how the foreign policies of China, Russia and Iran use various types of influence - military, economic and diplomatic - to spread their political values into neighboring regions. It will evaluate how successful these regimes have been in achieving their goals. It will also assess how effective their foreign policy is at building domestic support in their own countries. Topics discussed include: Russia as a role model for Eastern European nations such as Hungary, China’s “Silk Road” initiative, and Iran’s Cold War with Saudi Arabia. The current global political and historical context will be used to frame these events. Participants will be able to create lesson plans as a way to build and improve their AP Program.
