Improving students sense of belonging, along with changing staff mindsets, is a major step in cultivating a school culture that is welcoming to all students. Across the country, 99% of diverse schools do not fully represent their student diversity and many struggles with student sense of belonging in their AP/IB programs. Horry County and Charleston County schools will share their best practices, communication styles, and actionable methods taken to address and eliminate barriers preventing students from feeling that they belong. Additionally, the principals will share how they have specifically and intentionally worked with staff mindsets to create a culturally responsive learning environment EOS has the expertise, from partnering with more than 540 schools, to ensure that schools have the coaching, knowledge base, and tools needed to address and eliminate belonging barriers that preclude students of color and low-income students from enrolling into AP courses.
