AP Annual Conference Submission
Eliminating barriers, such as changing staff mindsets, is a major step in cultivating a school culture that is founded on high expectations for all students. 99% of diverse schools do not fully represent their student diversity in their AP/IB programs. West Charlotte HS has doubled their AP enrollment in a single year. This work was key in shifting the narrative about this Title I school within the hearts of students, staff, families, community members, and the entire Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. The leads will share how their AP participation has increased through the elimination of barriers, through trying different outreach tactics, and how they have specifically and intentionally worked with staff mindsets to create a culturally responsive learning environment.
