This presentation will outline purposeful and effective educational strategies for Advanced Placement teachers of all subjects that are designed to not only successfully integrate the increasing number of students with special needs into their classrooms, but to develop an environment of inclusion for these students in such high intensity learning environments. Embracing a growth mindset approach to student learning while slightly altering our own perceptions of students with special needs will allow AP instructors to incorporate these students into the general education classroom. Purposeful targeting of special needs students' strengths instead of weaknesses, coupled with different delivery models for school-based interventions can allow for the delivery of meaningful AP level instruction without sacrificing rigor or content, or negatively impacting non-service receiving classmates. Further, integration of some special education methods can produce better results for all students.
