This session will offering working solutions to the challenge of bringing the AP European History theme of “National and European Identity” to life in the classroom. With an emphasis on digital learning and meeting Generation Z in its own world of technological comfort, teaching strategies for each of the four time periods will be presented as well as effective approaches to lesson creation. Sample lessons will integrate the AP History Disciplinary Practices of Analyzing Historical Evidence and Argument Development as well as the History Reasoning Skills of Causation, Contextualization, Comparison, and Continuity and Change over Time. Consequently, the learning strategies presented will include multiple accounts and perspectives, analysis of primary documents, sourcing, and claim-evidence connections as well as thought-provoking classroom activities to drive successful student-centered Gen Z learning.
