Dialectical journals can help students learn to read with purpose and to refine analysis and commentary for close reading and whole texts, for fiction and nonfiction. Dialectical journals help students of all levels to hone analytical skills by making inferences, making appropriate choices about evidence, learning to elaborate effectively, and explaining author’s purpose, and transforming surface responses into well-developed, polished pieces. Participants will receive strategies for teaching analysis and resources for implementing dialectical journals and will have the opportunity to craft their own responses.
