Getting students out of their seats (“embodying” Shakespeare) and using digital augmented texts are not two mutually exclusive approaches to teaching Shakespeare. By carefully blending performance, reading, and digital tool use, students can gain a more rich and enjoyable sense of Shakespeare’s plays. In this highly participatory session, we will perform choral readings, close readings, and careful analysis to illuminate Shakespeare’s work. We will initially present our findings on the use of this technique in Pre-AP classrooms across the US, and then convert our room into a laboratory to perform choral (group) readings augmented by digital tools to support the effect of the choral reading.
