We joined the pre-AP pilot because of our hope to increase student performance on EOC exams and to prepare students for potential AP courses. Members of the team attended pre-AP and AP conferences to prepare for implementation in the fall. Teachers used the PD to plan curriculum merging to craft a strategic plan of implementation across the content areas. A major challenge has been the discrepancies between the planned time and actual roll-out. A success is that time is being spent grounding core skills to develop really strong observation, writing and textual support. Timing and materials will be changed for next year to scaffold, extend and connect learning targets and goals to state standards. Students are strengthening writing, observation and selection of important textual details, practicing higher-order thinking and discourse which prepares students for academic conversations, reading, writing, and thinking across all content areas.
