In this session, attendees will be introduced to the basics of cognitive neuroscience, how learning and memory work in the cognitive systems, and some of the cognitive challenges that students face in the classroom. From there, they will learn about how to mitigate these challenges by investigating specific strategies based on cognitive research that they can use within an AP classroom setting. The strategies included in the presentation are based on cognitive research, and greatly impact student processing and learning. This session can benefit any teacher of any AP class. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to elaborate on some of the cognitive challenges students face in the classroom, identify areas in their curriculum they can adapt to use cognitive strategies, create strategies based on cognitive research that are custom made for their content, and collaborate with peers in order to plan how to implement cognitive strategies in their subject.
