Explore creative ways to make student discussions COUNT. Purposeful conversation promotes growth in student writing and performance on the AP exam by building fluency in argumentation with logical and evidenced-based reasoning. Practice using the key concepts to formulate essential questions that your students can use to frame the conversation and address Historical Reasoning Skills. In this interactive session, you will learn how to structure peer to peer, small group, and whole group interactions for class conversations. Walk away with proven ways to empower your students to use evidence to support point of view, develop arguments, respond constructively to ideas, and create their own understandings using accountable talk!

Learning Objectives:

• Participants will learn how to transfer key concepts from the course articulation into essential questions that frame the lesson through student conversations. Participants will learn how to facilitate structured conversations that will increase student understanding of the content through the application of historical reasoning skills. Participants will advance student learning and performance on writing and multiple choice assessments by practicing strategies that build students’ fluency in communicating using evidence to support and defend arguments. Participants will learn how to increase the number of structured conversation opportunities for their students that are peer to peer, small group, and whole class.
