Pre-AP is designed to facilitate and measure student learning while supporting teacher practice. Pre-AP’s Theory of Action is threefold: (1) purposeful and focused content, (2) horizontal alignment of skills and strategies, and (3) targeted assessments tied with feedback and reflection for both students and teachers. At the heart of Pre-AP English is a focus on Reading Closely, Valuing Evidence, and Noticing Language Choices. As writers students focus on crafting complex sentences as the foundation for writing that facilitates complex thinking. When this focused content is grounded in a common set of classroom principles and supported with targeted assessments and meaningful feedback, it creates a learning environment where students ask genuine questions and are invested in their own learning. This session explores how automated tools deliver agency for students and embolden teachers to use feedback to guide student learning and influence instructional practice.
