As a part of the reading component of the AP English Language and Literature class at Campus Eugenio Garza Lagüera in Monterery City, students are encouraged to write poems. Given that English is not their first language, writing poetry could be thought of as a very challenging effort; however, they have proven quite able to find the right poetic terms. Over the last few years, these students have had online connections with other students in the United States. In these interactions, students are able to talk about their likes, interests, and challenges at school. Students were encouraged to share their poetry with their American counterparts. The result has been poetic expression that is are quite powerful and inspiring. In this session strategies for achieving this will be shared. This experience can also be shared with teachers of Spanish Literature and Culture.
