The American Society of Nephrology's (ASN) Nephrologists Transforming Dialysis Safety (NTDS) is a multi-year initiative funded by the CDC, focused on enhancing the quality of life for people with kidney failure by engaging nephrologists as team leaders in transformation change that continuously improves the safety of life-sustaining dialysis.
This session will describe the work being accomplished by nationally and internationally-recognized experts in kidney care to target zero infections by actively pursuing the elimination of preventable infections in dialysis facilities. The priority areas in this initiative include:
• adherence to recommended IPC practices,
• screening and detection of infections,
• implementation of clinical protocols to ensure accurate detection and treatment, and
• collaboration between nephrologists and state/federal healthcare-associated infection programs.
Participants in this session will learn about the initiative within these workgroups to examine barriers to IPC in the dialysis setting using a quality platform which includes principles of leadership, evidence-based knowledge, and human factors.
