Julia joined FDA in May 2001 as a nurse consultant after 15 years of critical care nursing. She has a Master’s of Science in trauma/critical care nursing from the University of Maryland. Within CDRH, Julia has managed precedent-setting, complex, emerging public health concerns with medical devices including heater-coolers used during cardiothoracic surgery.
As ARC Director, Julia is responsible for leading, planning and implementing CDRH’s emergency preparedness, incident response, and counter measure activities. She is developing a culture of preparedness and shortages program. Recently, Julia’s been involved in developing a strategic initiative involving healthcare associated infections (HAIs) involving medical devices in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Julia’s passion for reducing risks to patients is evident in her everyday work and a result of her nursing experiences.
