Microbiologist, HAI Outbreak Laboratory Response lead

Heather Moulton-Meissner, PhD, is the activity lead for Healthcare Associated Infection Outbreak Response Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Heather holds a doctorate degree in Applied and Environmental Microbiology at Georgia State University. She collaborates with and supports state public health labs responding to outbreaks of infections acquired from the patient care environment, which includes processing primary specimens such as water, sterile and compounded products, and medical devices for the recovery of target microorganisms. Additionally, she integrates research findings from colleagues in the Clinical and Environmental Microbiology Branch within the CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion to standardize field sample collection practices.
