New demands and emerging technologies are fundamentally altering the preservation and stewardship of cultural landscapes. With case studies, we will look at the ethics of adaptive reuse, approaches to achieving resiliency, the interpretive challenges of mixed-period sites, and strategies for respecting the cultural landscapes of marginalized communities.

Prior to the education session, please join the presenters for the Historic Preservation Professional Practice Network (PPN) Meeting at 8:00 AM. This will be a time to hear updates from the PPN's leadership and share your highlights from the past year and from your work in historic preservation.

Learning Objectives:

• Examine several preservation projects through the lens of period of significance, inviting dialogue and debate about a range of approaches from conservation to rehabilitation to reconstruction.
• Learn about policies and strategies for engaging marginalized communities in planning for associated significant landscapes. There will be opportunities for practitioners in the audience to contribute.
• Examine approaches to designing within historically significant places, particularly in terms of meeting accessibility and sustainability goals.
• Consider strategies for bolstering support for cultural landscapes in an era of shrinking public contributions. Members of the audience will be encouraged to share observations and lessons learned.
