What is the role of a cultural heritage site, garden, or park in expressing the rich and diverse cultures of a community? With a place-based approach to design you can help your clients express the stories of the places they inhabit and of the people who care about them.

Learning Objectives:

• Discover and understand that Native people have traditional approaches and ceremonies connected to the land—it is their origin, and provides spiritual renewal and a healing place to return to.
• Learn to create a welcoming, respectful, and memorable space that represents multiple perspectives reflective of the layers of history often present in the landscape.
• Develop skill to integrate the land, water, and views of nature with new site and building features to emphasize the cultural and natural history of a place.
• Gain insight into weaving multiple cultural perspectives into site, shelters, buildings, and programs that are sustainable, comfortable, healthy, safe, easily navigated, and simply maintained.
