Even absent disaster or imminent threat, there are compelling economic and public finance reasons for city leaders to invest in flood resiliency solutions, starting with bond ratings and insurability. This session enumerates ways designers can appeal to a municipality’s need to manage risk when proposing mitigation or adaptation strategies.

Learning Objectives:

• Explore how landscape architects as design leaders can use this knowledge to promote projects to local leaders, to emphasize the necessity of flood resilience work.
• See what local government leadership in support of flood resilience looks like and hear lessons learned regarding community engagement and communications.

• Learn about standards and design guidelines for flood resilient infrastructure and the ability to reduce loss potential from flood events. .
