Placemaking has historically been rooted in an understanding of the unseen forces of nature. How might designers today look beyond conventional practices to reinterpret ancient, instinctive techniques and give new meaning to their work? Participants will examine the tarot as creative catalyst for navigating a new path to placemaking.

Learning Objectives:

• Examine and apply nature-based concepts of genius loci, or spirit of place, to contemporary site design.
• Explore the relationship between mythology, folklore, and environmental design thinking in a global context.
• Gain insight into personal creative expression and environmental values by participating in a hands-on creative activity.
• Recognize and celebrate the historical foundations of culturally diverse design strategies.
