With an emphasis on regenerative design and post-occupancy evaluation, the Living Building Challenge (LBC) is rigorously redefining green building standards, and site strategies are critical to achieving LBC certification. Join us to review how LBC imperatives interface with site and landscape design through three projects in Virginia, Alabama, and Georgia.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the goals and structure of the Living Building Challenge (LBC) with a particular emphasis on how the rating system addresses landscape, how it both differs from and complements SITES.
• Explore the benefits and challenges of applying LBC imperatives to diverse landscape ecologies, and how monitoring and adaptive management are critical to achieving the project goals after post-occupancy evaluation.
• Build vocabulary and strategies that landscape architects can use to guide clients and consultant teams through the LBC process, from preproject through construction and certification.
• Learn the LBC process from initial site selection through design and construction, the post-occupancy performance period, project dedication, and how the design team worked to achieve the certification.
