What will it take to undo the unnatural history of urban waterways as American cities seek to remediate the negative drawbacks of hydromodification and channelization? The panel will discuss creative methods that allow our urban waterways to become the central spine of culture, nature, and social equity.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn through case studies presented by the panelists, and hear how each leader figures landscape architecture as the primary tool to engage with communities to rediscover successful urban waterways.
• Explore ways in which urban waterways that have undergone hydromodification can become accessible, active, and beautiful public spaces.
• Understand best practices for balancing the desires of local stakeholders and clients with the technical challenges of development.
• Identify the key players (design professions, public sector support, private sector funding, stakeholder support) that help to create a successful urban waterway. .
