After a long career as professor in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Gerald C. (Jerry) Nelson spent five years in Washington, DC as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). At IFPRI, Jerry coordinated climate change research, led the policy analysis activities of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security, and was the principal investigator on major projects on food security and climate change issues. He has advised the World Bank, USAID and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. He has been quoted in many publications, including the Economist, the New York Times, the British newspaper The Guardian, the Tehran Times, and the Grand Junction Sentinel where he currently resides. His recent research focuses on how to attain sustainable nutrition security in the face of a growing threat from climate change.
