Deﬁning and achieving sustainable food systems is a critical challenge and opportunity for collaboration between diverse stakeholders across the globe. According to the Chicago Consensus on Sustainable Food Systems Science, four domains of sustainable food systems science exist. Given the breadth and complexity of each domain, there is a need for an interdisciplinary, harmonized approach to analyze and compare metrics, data, and evidence across these areas. In this panel discussion, leading experts — including those who developed The Chicago Consensus — will present the existing body of evidence and metrics to account for each domain in sustainable food systems. They will discuss opportunities to build a more integrated approach to sustainable food systems science that accounts for tradeoffs across these areas. This workshop picks up from the 2017 discussion at ASN’s Scientific Sessions (“Food Systems, Nutrition and Health in a Changing Environment”) to reﬂect the current dialogue in a rapidly changing environment.
