This session will examine adult protein needs to maintain skeletal muscle during conditions of compromised physical mobility or metabolic health. Periods of reduced mobility such as bedrest, compromised function such as aging, or metabolic dysregulation such as diabetes, produce catabolic conditions in skeletal muscle which alters nutrition needs and complicates health care requirements. Protein supplements that increased protein quantity and quality can mitigate the catabolic consequences. Speakers will review the catabolic conditions and examine the benefits of protein supplements.
Lunch will be available for sponsored satellite program attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis.
