The spectrum of ureteral stricture disease can present the urologist with management challenges. The potential surgical conundrums created by various etiologies, location and and severity necessitates urologists to be familiar with the entire gamut of diagnostic approaches and treatment alternatives.
This course will present the breadth of available options and provide step-by-step pathways in managing ureteral strictures.
Evaluation, choices of intervention as well as situation specific recommendations will be presented in a case based manner. Basic
principles of treatment such as preservation of a vascular supply, excision of diseased tissue and a watertight as well as a tension-free anastomosis will be reviewed along with techniques to achieve, assess and monitor success. The curriculum will review management from acute setting through repair and follow-up. Diagnostic schema to determine etiology will be reviewed. Management options presented will include endoscopic incision, bowel interposition and use of autologous flaps. An algorithmic process will be integrated into each portion of the course.
