Julio Davalos, MD
Julio G. Davalos, M.D., director of the endourology fellowship program, is a board-certified urologist and serves as Medical Director of the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s Kidney Stone Center, Director of Chesapeake Urology’s Advanced Kidney Stone program, and Clinical Faculty for the Section of Urology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
He is a national leader in kidney stone treatment and innovation and has performed more than 2,000 PCNL surgeries and over 1000 tubeless PCNL surgeries. He was the first surgeon in the nation to perform tubeless PCNL surgery in an ambulatory surgical center (Tubeless Ambulatory PCNL Surgery), and currently this is the only center routinely performing these procedures. His special interest is in kidney stone disease and he specializes in providing comprehensive surgical, medical and preventive care for urolithiasis with the treatment goal of rendering patients 100% stone free.
Dr. Davalos is focused on identifying the least invasive and most effective means for removing large and complex stones. He is also continuously involved in research as well as product development for new medical devices related to the management of kidney stone disease. One such device that he now employs in his tubeless PCNL cases includes a surgical hemostatic plug to seal the access tract aiding in high surgical success rates.
His research on tubeless PCNL and the hemostatic plug was featured in The Journal of Endourology's March 2015 issue and was awarded the cover. Dr. Davalos has published articles in multiple medical journals and has presented at national and international meetings on subjects primarily related to kidney stone conditions and treatments. He serves as content reviewer for the Journal of Endourology and Urology (Gold Journal).
