Currently, multiparametric MR imaging has undergone an expanding role (level 1 evidence) in men with a clinical suspicion for or diagnosed with prostate cancer. The application of MR imaging to guide biopsies has been limited to radiologists until recently with the introduction of new MR/US fusion guided biopsy devices. This technological advance has allowed urologists to move the MR-guided biopsy from the radiology practice to their offices.
It is paramount that urologists understand the basic fundamentals of prostate imaging and targeted biopsy techniques. The goal of this course is to provide a hands-on experience and an introduction to the technology, MR imaging, and the skills needed to perform a MR US fusion guided biopsy.
During the course, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and obtain tips and tricks from some of the leaders in the field who have help developed this new technology. We will review the basics of MR imaging, interpretation, co-registration, fusion technology, and the techniques of MR/US fusion-guided prostate biopsy for the three types of fusion technologies available. This includes computer-aided fusion, mechanical localization, electromagnetic tracking and other new technologies.
