This course will introduce and review new concepts and areas of controversy in the exciting and rapidly evolving field of testosterone therapy. The goal is to provide the attendee with a forward-looking and practical approach to diagnosis and management of the testosterone-deficient man. Topics to be addressed include: who is a candidate for T therapy; how to choose between multiple treatment options; T therapy in men with prostate cancer; the Saturation Model; effect of testosterone on general health issues, including glycemic control, metabolic syndrome, obesity, longevity; role of bone density assessment; monitoring of men on T therapy; discussion of real and alleged risks, including cardiovascular risk and sleep apnea. The material would include:
-The debate on terminology (testosterone therapy vs TRT, testosterone deficiency vs late-onset hypogonadism, etc) -Impact of testosterone therapy on obesity and metabolic conditions -In-depth review of cardiovascular data, including possibility for cardiovascular benefits -In-depth review of data regarding prostate cancer and LUTS -Use of testosterone therapy in men with a history of prostate cancer -Data regarding use of testosterone therapy in men with other conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease
In addition, we will include a section of challenging clinical cases/scenarios, such as the use of testosterone therapy in men with elevated PSA after negative biopsy, and management of complications from treatment.
