Social media (#SoMe) represents a new paradigm in medical education, advocacy, collaboration and patient outreach. Traditional KT activities focused on publication and conference presentation are limited by reach and engagement. Social media eliminated these barriers by facilitating open and transparent communication. One of the novel means to convert information is the “Tweetorial.” A Tweetorial is an abbreviated but interactive discussion focused on a specific concept or topic. While analogous to a didactic lecture, the platform of delivery allows for a greater level of interactivity than what would be possible outside of #SoMe. “Tweetchats” are a series of twitter posts on a theme or topic. In healthcare Tweetchats can be an effective platform for virtual journal clubs to engage multiple users in a real-time dialogue. And last but not least, Twitter is an exceptional opportunity to collaborate globally with KOL’s and thought leaders that are not typically accessible by geographical and at times gender barriers. Twitter “rafts” are a contemporary phenomenon typically in reference to Women in Medicine and Women in Cardiology but increasingly is used to reference the gender neutral sponsorship, clinical and research opportunities directly resulting from Twitter interactions.
