Dr. Joel Niznick completed his medical training at the University of Manitoba 1978. He completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Toronto and completed his cardiology training at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 1986. Dr. Niznick did additional training in coronary care unit research, coronary angiography and echocardiography.
Dr. Niznick has been in community cardiology practice since early July of 1986 attending at the Riverside Hospital and served as Director of the ICU for the hospital's last eight years. Subsequently he ha been on staff at the General Campus Ottawa Hospital with Cardiac Catheterization privileges at UOHI [until September 2018].
Dr. Niznick is Managing Partner of the Ottawa Cardiovascular Centre (OCC) which has a registered partient population of 270,000 patients and ~ 50,000 clinical visits and 30,000 cardiac tests per year. OCC sevices a broad referral base in Eastern Ontarion and includes 7 Cardiologists, 2 Pediatric Cardiologists, 5 Internists and a part time Endocrinologist to cover the broad spectrum of Cardiovascular and Metabolic disease.
Dr. Niznick’s main areas of clinical interest include cardiovascular physical examination, cardiovascular risk reduction and clinical evidence dissemination and implementation. He has participated in CCS Guideline Panels for Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly and served on the CCS CPD Committee.
