Dr. Olga Toleva graduated Medicine in Sofia, Bulgaria and subsequently completed Family Medicine residency and Internal Medicine residency at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. She then completed her training in Adult Cardiology and Interventional cardiology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB. During her cardiology fellowship she also obtained Masters in Public Health in Harvard.
Dr. Toleva joined the Section of Cardiology at St. Boniface Hospital in September 2014. She is an Assistant Professor in the University of Manitoba and an interventional cardiologist involved in Trans catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and coronary physiology. She has established the Manitoba TAVI database and is focused on outcomes research, frailty and quality of life assessments in the older adults who are the predominant population requiring TAVI.
Dr. Toleva has a strong interest in Women's Heart Health with clinical work and research related to the diagnosis and therapy of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) and establishing the first in Manitoba SCAD database and clinic for follow up of SCAD patients. She is also interested in cardiac ischemic syndromes including Myocardial infarction without obstructive coronary artery disease (MINOCA) and Micro vascular dysfunction - chest pain syndromes without obstructive coronary disease. These conditions are predominantly seen in women and continue to be poorly understood and under-treated.
Dr. Toleva is a member of the Canadian Women's Heart Health Alliance and has been very active in the community by raising awareness for Women's Heart Health. She has ongoing collaboration with the Heart and Stroke foundation on research and raising awareness about women and heart disease.
