Dr. Brian Clarke completed medical school and postgraduate medical training in internal medicine and cardiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then completed fellowship training in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at Stanford University. After returning to Halifax for several years, he then accepted a position in Calgary within the heart failure group at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute and is Associate Professor, Department of Cardiac Sciences, Cummings School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Dr. Clarke's clinical practice specialzes in cardio-oncology, cardiomyopathy heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. He is currently the Acting Medical Director of the Cardiac Transplant program & Medical Director of the MCS program at Libin Cardiovascular Institute in Calgary. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Clarke is involved in many areas of academic medicine. He led the development and serves as Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's Area of Focused Competence program in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation. Locally, he is the program director of the advanced heart failure fellowship program offered at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute in Calgary and is involved in the post-graduate cardiology training program as well. He serves on the executive of the Canadian Cardiac Transplant Network and advisory boards to Canadian Blood Services in the area of heart transplantation. His research interests include heart failure outcomes, processes of care, MCS and sensitization in heart transplantation.
