Dr. Mackie is a pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. His clinical work is focused on general cardiology and echocardiography. His research interests include: (i) the transition from pediatric to adult cardiac care, and how to improve that process for adolescents, their parents, and health care providers; (ii) health services research examining resource utilization among children and adults with congenital heart disease; (iii) outcomes research in general among children and adults with CHD. Dr. Mackie has led clinical trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews. Currently he is funded as co-Principal Applicant by CIHR for two randomized controlled trials, and is a Distinguished Researcher with the Women and Children's Health Research Institute affiliated with the University of Alberta. His knowledge translation efforts including development of written and video-based teaching materials for adolescents transitioning to adult care, and implementation of a nurse-led individualized transition program within the Cardiology clinic at the Stollery.
