Dr. Hartz obtained a degree in economics at Emory University and his MPH at Columbia University. Dr. Hartz then returned home to attend the University of New Mexico School of Medicine before completing his Pediatric Residency at Duke University. He completed a cardiology fellowship at Children's National Medical Center and completed a senior fellowship in preventive cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital where he remains on staff.
Dr. Hartz's investigates the prevention and treatment of hypertension and dyslipidemia in children and adolescents. His research focuses on strategies to promote healthier lifestyles, such as increased physical activity and better diets using strategies developed in behavioral economics and behavioral science. Currently, he is studying the efficacy of a mobile health application to provide monetary incentives to increase medication adherence in youth who are at risk for cardiovascular disease. He enjoys traveling, live music, and playing with dog Olive.
