Topic #2 Evaluation of common surgical repairs for congenital heart disease: Dr. Robin Ducas.

Topic and Content:
The prevalence of congenital heart disease is increasing in Canada. Cardiologists and cardiovascular health professionals are encountering more of these patients in daily clinical practice than ever before. As such there is a need to educate health professionals about congenital heart disease as it is no longer something seen only in specialty clinics. Imaging is a key component of investigating and managing this patient population and this will be the focus of this workshop.
Previous Workshop Offerings:
A workshop focusing on general imaging in congenital heart disease has been previously presented. A workshop specifically focused on echocardiography and congenital heart disease has not been presented.
Representation of Canadian Centers and Perspectives:
The planning committee represents 4 different centres (Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Sherbrooke). Representation includes adult congenital cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, echocardiographers and trainees.
Content: The faculty will focus on the echocardiographic assessment of repaired and unrepaired congenital heart disease. There will be no third party influences or support. This workshop is endorsed by the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Disease (CACH) Network.
Description:
Workshop will be 1.5 hours long. Each speaker will be given 25 minutes to work through several quick illustrative cases that will focus on recognition of key imaging findings/pearls that pertain to the topic. Questions and active use if the ARS will be included in this 25 minutes. After each session/talk there will be 5 minutes for open question and answer period.
