This session will highlight 5 exciting topics relevant to clinical practice for general cardiologists and cardiologists with an interest in heart rhythm disorders or heart failure.

The format will include a debate between two experts followed by a summary. During this summary a balanced opinion will be given and a description of “this is what I do and why” as it relates to the specific topic. The audience will be encouraged to ask specific questions as they relate to difficult patient related questions.

Debate 1: CRT/single chamber ICD should be used for all patients with AF, LBBB and low EF.
Drs Stephen Wilton(should) and Vikas Kuriachan (should not)

Debate 2: SICD/transvenous ICD should be first line for all young people/prior infection/etc when an ICD is indicated.

Debate 3: A leadless pacemaker should (not) be implanted in patients expecting to receive a single chamber pacemaker.
Drs Andrew Ha (should) and Calum Redpath (should not)

Debate 4: His bundle pacing should (not) be used for all patients with a CRT indication.

Debate 5: Ejection fraction is (not) the optimal assessment of risk of sudden death in patients being evaluated for an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

• understand how the presence of atrial fibrillation affects the risk/benefit decision of the use of cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with left bundle branch block, reduced ejection fraction and heart failure symptoms;
• appreciate the differences between subcutaneous and transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillators and understand which strategy may be beneficial over the other; and
• understand in which patients a leadless pacemaker may be preferred over a standard pacemaker.
