Given the emergence of new evidence on atrial fibrillation, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Guidelines Panel provides periodic updated recommendations that address clinically important advances in the management and treatment of AF.



In this workshop session, members of the AF Guidelines Panel will present key messages from the 2018 update and highlight new evidence and practical approach. Members will use example cases to discuss:

(1) AF and cardioversion (timing of cardioversion, use of NOACs before and after cardioversion, etc.),

(2) The role of ablation for patients with AF and heart failure, and

(3) antithrombotic management of patients with AF and coronary artery disease.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

• align clinical practice with the CCS's atrial fibrillation guidelines with the review antithrombotic management of patients with atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease;
• identify which patients with AF and Heart Failure may benefit from catheter ablation; and
• discuss the latest evidence in stroke prevention for atrial fibrillation patients undergoing cardioversion.
