The session features two Awardees of the CCS Atrial Fibrillation Research Award and next generation researchers. Principal Investigators will present their study findings and will be challenged with questions from the panelists and the audience.
Our panel consists of Canadian leaders in research and care of patients with heart rhythm disorders. Drs. Parkash, Pearson and Deyell are members of CCS, CHRS, and CANet and have had longstanding involvement in the CCS Atrial Fibrillation Research Awards as peer reviews and, in the cases of Drs Parkash and Deyell, as past awardees.
Peter Loewen PharmD –2015 Awardee
Research focus: Long-term persistence and adherence with new oral anticoagulants vs. warfarin in newly-anticoagulated atrial fibrillation patients.
William McIntyre MD – 2016 Awardee
Research focus: Atrial Fibrillation Occurring Transiently with Stress (AFOTS) Understanding the Risks of Recurrent AF in Non-cardiac Surgery
The session will close with a presentation by Dr. Parkash - a CCS leader, CANet Governor and AF Track Captain, and national leader with clinical and research expertise on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias – on current trends in the field and the evolving research agenda.
