Palliative Care & Oncology
This is a review and update in the treatment of three of the most common cancers: lung, breast and prostate and how they affect the diagnostic and treatment decisions of the C-L psychiatrist. The speakers, all highly experienced consultants for patients with these specific tumor types, will review the usual principles of oncological care for these tumors and what has changed recently, including epidemiology, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. William Pirl, MD, FACLP, will review lung cancer, Andrew Roth, MD, FACLP, prostate cancer, and Donna Greenberg, MD, FACLP, breast cancer. Each speaker will focus on critical psychiatric presentations, drug interactions, and what CL psychiatrists should know to evaluate and treat psychiatric syndromes in these patients. Enduring and new psychological approaches for these patients will also be reviewed. Donald Rosenstein, MD, FACLP will serve as discussant with dedicated time for a question and answer session.
