As San Mateo's Director of Public Works, Brad leads and collaborates on the efforts of a full service Department with 135 employees. Areas of responsibility are: Capital Design and Delivery, Transportation and Development, Clean Water Program, Regulatory Compliance, Field Maintenance, Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), Fleet and Facilities, and Asset Management. He is responsible for planning, designing and implementing large scale projects and initiatives such as the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project, SR 92/82 Interchange Improvements, "Smooth Streets" Program, and the Clean Water Program. The Clean Water Program is a $1 billion program to make necessary improvements in the City's sewer collection system and WWTP to deal with aging infrastruction, meet regulatory requirements, and meet sustainability goals of the City. Collection system upgrades will include an underground flow equalization system and at the WWTP complete replacement of most facilties including the City's first headworks. Brad has led the Department efforts of outreach to San Mateo citizens, businesses, and other partners related to these projects and others to provide transparent information and achieve trust of the Department's efforts. He has worked for San Mateo since September 2014 and prior to that was the Director of Pubic Works / City Engineer for the City of Foster City. He has a total of 34 years of experience in the Engineering and Public Works field with 26 years at the City of Bakersfield where he worked throughout this large full service Department in various engineering and maintenance assignments and key positions such as Public Works Operations Manager and lastly as Deputy Director. Brad is thrilled to work for San Mateo at this important time where many key projects and initiatives are being undertaken.
