Session 12:45 – 3:30pm (2.75 hrs)
Join us for a hands-on workshop that includes both lecture and laboratory elements. This workshop is for people who have had no or very limited experience with using a microscope and interpreting the observations of a microscopic examination of activated sludge.
The following topics will be covered:
• sludge solids separation problems
• activated sludge as a microbial enrichment culture
• the phase contrast microscope
• sample preparation and staining methods
• microscopic observation of activated sludge communities
• use of microscopic observation in diagnosis/solution of operating problems
• discussion of results of observations of participant samples
Level: Introduction to; limited knowledge of subject matter / entry level staff
